For Kiyokata, literature was always the fountain of images never drained. Throughout his life, he had loved to read and been a fan of two writers, Higuchi Ichiyō and Izumi Kyōka. As an illustrator and a Japanese style painter, he had been produced so many works inspired by their writings.
