Kiyokata, Bijinga Painter of East and Uemura Shōen of West

Kiyokata was born in 1878 and blossomed out as a Japanese style painter in the end of Meiji period. In his career, he was pursuing ideal beauty and produced many masterpieces of bijinga, paintings of beautiful women.
In commemorating the 145th anniversary of his birth, this exhibition provides a chance for enjoying bijinga by Kiyokata’s works characterized by Edo-Tokyo style, with the works of Uemura Shōen who representative of bijinga painter in the west of Japan.
