The 180th Anniversary of Sanyūtei Enchō’s Birth: Kiyokata, Encho, Recalling the Edo Period

Kiyokata aged 13 was pushed by his father and a famous rakugoka (story-teller) Sanyūtei Enchō to become a painter. Young Kiyokata had learned a great deal from Enchō’s attitude toward his work.
In this special exhibition, we introduce little-known relationship of Kiyokata and Enchō with Kiyokata’s paintings of theatrical culture.
