    Kiyokata’s Art Style “Tabletop Art”

     "Tabletop Art" is an art form proposed by Kaburaki Kiyokata in the Taisho period. It contains scroll paintings, picture books, or printed frontispieces and illustrations: you could enjoying to see a lot of details on your hands or on the tabletop. This exhibition features tebletop art and also shows Kiyokata’s works expressed the autumn.

     This exhibition shows impressive summer scenery in Kiyokata’s works: beautiful women in yukata, calm days in his cottage. The making process of Japanese style paintings is also introduced.

    The 50th Anniversary of Publishing the Essay
    Zoku Koshikata-no-ki:
    Tracing Kiyokata’s Artistic Life with His Masterpieces

     Kiyokata wrote about his life of the Taisho to Showa period in his autobiographical essay Zoku Koshikata-no-ki published in 1967. Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the essay’s publication, the exhibition introduces his masterpieces of the Taisho to Showa period.

     Kiyokata had visited Kanagawa many times and fascinated with amazing view of this area.

    The 120th Anniversary of Higuchi Ichiyo’s Death: Harmony between Kiyokata and Literature

     We commemorate the 120th anniversary of the death of a Japanese novelist, Higuchi Ichiyo.
    Kiyokata loved Ichiyo’s works and painted various characters which appeared in those novels.
    In this exhibition, you see mainly the Kiyokata’s paintings and illustrations inspired by Ichiyo’s and
    the other novelists’ literature.
