清方は、大正5年（1916）から『報知新聞』に連載された柳川春葉（しゅんよう）の小説「二人静」へ289点の挿絵を寄せました。後に単行本として刊行される際に、本作品を口絵のために描きました。
三重子が夫の輝雄を追い、北海道の釧路へ向かう場面を取り上げています。三重子に寄り添う子どもは、三重子が引き取り育てている、輝雄と芸妓・浪次（なみじ）の間にできた政一（せいいち）です。

Kiyokata contributed 289 illustrations for the novel Futarishizuka by Yanagawa Shunyō, serialized in Hōchi Newspaper from 1916. When the book was published, he produced this painting for the kuchi-e frontispiece.
The painting depicts the scene in which Mieko is following Teruo, her husband, to Kushiro in Hokkaido. The child nestled in her arms is Seiichi, the son of Teruo and the geisha Namiji, whom Mieko is raising as her own.
