Bonfire of Fallen Leaves (c.a.1965)
color on paper; hanging scroll
56.0 × 36.0 cm

In the distance, a woman is shielding her face with her sleeve to ward off the smoke from a bonfire. The work depicts a scene in autumn in the Edo period.
Kiyokata took an interest in Edo and Meiji genre scenes in his youth, and this work suggests that this interest did not fade away, but remained a source of inspiration for his work even in his later years.
