The kabuki dance-drama Kyōganoko Musume Dōjō-ji is the sequel to the legend of Anchin and Kiyohime as told at Dōjō-ji temple in Kishū province. Pursuing her beloved Anchin, Kiyohime has disguised herself as Hanago, a young dancer, and has persuaded the priest to allow her to enter the temple precincts at Dōjō-ji temple where women are not normally admitted. There, she performs a series of dances for the young Buddhist priests. Comprised of a series of fourteen dances, this painting depicts the scene where she dances with three large red sedge hats.
