清方は、大正9年のこの年、横浜・金沢の称名寺の西に位置する君ヶ崎の地に別荘を得ました。称名寺や小柴など、別荘周辺の風景を家族の姿とともに描いた全25図の絵日記です。扉部分の「金沢絵日記の二」とは、前年の《夏の生活》に続く2番目の絵日記であることを意味しています。
海水浴をする家族、地引網漁の見物など別荘での暮らしの一コマのほか、遠く房総半島を望む夏菊が咲く野原や、金沢八景の一つに詠われた乙舳の浜、浅間社に茂る森などの土地の風景を瑞々しい筆致で描きました。前年に訪ねた後折れてしまった筆捨松を惜しむ詞(ことば)が、倒れた松の姿とともに綴られ、その付近で手に入れた松の実生の苗を別荘の一隅に植えたことなども描かれています。


Random Sketches of Kimigasaki
In 1920, Kiyokata bought a summer villa at Kimigasaki, which lies to the west of Shōmyōji temple in Kanazawa, Yokohama. This sketch diary contains twenty-five drawings of his family and the scenery in the vicinity of the house, including Shōmyōji temple and Koshiba. On the title page, Kiyokata has written Kanazawa Enikki II (Kanazawa Sketch Diary II), suggesting that this is the second part of the Daily Life in Summer sketch diary of the previous year.
As well as sketches of the family swimming in the sea, watching seine fishing, and domestic scenes at the villa, Kiyokata brushed vivid paintings of the views of fields of early chrysanthemums in bloom, the seashore at Ottomo, one of the famous Kanazawa hakkei (eight views of Kanazawa), the thick woods at Asama shrine, and other local scenery. A few words of regret for the fudesute matsu, which had snapped after his visit the previous year, are penned on the same page as the drawing of the fallen pine. Another drawing shows a sapling obtained from the vicinity of the fudesute matsu being transplanted in a corner of the garden at the summer villa.
