『サンデー毎日』（第19年第1号）の口絵の原画。清方が挿絵画家として活動していたのは大正半ばまでであり、戦前はほとんど手掛ける機会がありませんでした。そんな時期に描かれた珍しい作品です。
清方は、夜会巻の美しさの条件として、すっきりとした襟足と後ろ姿を挙げています。（「えりもと」『ホーム・ライフ』第1巻11号、昭和10年（1935））
本作は、清方が思い描く理想的な女性の後ろ姿が表現されています。

This is the original for a kuchi-e frontispiece for the Sunday Mainichi (Year 19, Issue 1). Kiyokata worked as an illustrator until the early 1920s, but hardly at all in the 1930s, making this illustration a rarity.
Kiyokata has expressed the beauty of the yakai-maki hairstyle (a French twist) by drawing attention to the nape of the neck and the appearance from behind. (Erimoto [Collar] in Home Life Vol. 1 Issue 11, 1935)
In Kiyokata’s eyes, this work portrays the ideal appearance of a woman seen from behind.
